On 9 August 1959, American designer Michael Kors was born in Long Island, New York. Kors began designing at the age of 19. As the first ever women's ready-to-wear designer at French fashion house Celine, Kors was known for turing out blockbuster accessories.His own eponymous line, which celebrates 30 years in business this year, made him the youngest recipient of the CFDA's Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award in 2010.Kors' focus on sportswear and a classic American aesthetic makes his designs popular on the awards circuit with such women as Jennifer Lopez, Heidi Klum and Catherine Zeta-Jones.Kors also serves as a judge on the Emmy-nominated winning reality programme Project Runway.Today, we present an ensemble in the vein of his Afriluxe-themed menswear collection for Spring 2012.
